What Daily Docket is

Daily Docket is a free daily game published by Legalish. Each edition serves five real Supreme Court cases plus a bonus case. You rule, then see what the Court actually held. It runs in two places: on the web at legalish.me/daily-docket, and as an app inside certain subreddits on Reddit.

What we collect on the web version

  • Your game state stays in your browser. Your rulings, streak, scores, and rank are stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser data erases them, and they don't follow you between devices.
  • Email, only if you give it. The game offers an optional email sign-up. If you enter an address, it is sent to our newsletter provider (Ghost) with a "daily-docket" label, and Ghost sends you a confirmation link. Nothing is subscribed until you click it. You can unsubscribe from any email we send, or write to brian@lynchllp.com and we'll remove you.
  • Objections. If you use the "File an objection" link to report a problem, we receive the message you type plus the edition and case you were on, the page URL, and a truncated browser identifier so we can reproduce the bug. Don't put anything personal in an objection; it isn't needed and we'd rather not have it.
  • Consultation clicks. If you open the Lynch LLP consultation panel, we log that the panel was opened (edition, screen, URL, truncated browser identifier) so we know whether anyone uses it. No name or contact information is collected at that step. If you then book a consultation, that happens on Lynch LLP's scheduling provider under its own privacy terms.
  • Standard site logging and ads. Because the game is a page on legalish.me, the site's ordinary server logs, cookies, and advertising described in the Privacy Policy apply.

What we collect on Reddit

  • No email, no accounts, no links out. The Reddit version has no sign-up form and does not send you to legalish.me.
  • Game state is keyed to your Reddit account ID. Your streak, rulings, and results are stored in the app's storage on Reddit's Developer Platform so they work across the subreddits where the app is installed. We see a Reddit user ID and, where Reddit exposes it, your username. We never see your email or password.
  • Crowd tallies. Your first ruling on each case is counted, once, toward the anonymous "how the bench ruled" percentages shown to other players. Tallies are aggregate counts per subreddit and app-wide; individual rulings are not displayed.
  • Things you ask the app to post. Filing your scorecard as a comment, or wearing your rank as user flair, happens only when you press the button, and posts as you. You can delete the comment or clear the flair through Reddit like any other.
  • Objections. Bug reports filed inside the Reddit app are stored with your username so we can follow up in the thread if needed.
  • Purchases. The optional "Continuance" (streak repair) is sold through Reddit's own payments system using Reddit Gold. Reddit handles the transaction; we receive a fulfillment notice tied to your Reddit user ID and never see payment details. A Continuance that can't be applied is refunded automatically through Reddit.
  • Reddit's Privacy Policy and User Agreement also apply to anything you do on Reddit.

Children

Daily Docket is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. On Reddit, Reddit's own age requirements apply.

Retention and deletion

Web game state lives only on your device. Objections and consult-click logs are kept while we're actively fixing the game and then discarded. Reddit game state is kept for as long as the app is installed; to have your Reddit-side data removed, message u/orangejulius or email brian@lynchllp.com with your Reddit username and we'll delete it.

Terms of play

  • It's a game, not legal advice. The cases are real and the holdings are quoted from the public record, but the summaries are simplified and the commentary is opinion. Nothing here creates an attorney-client relationship with Brian Lynch or Lynch LLP, and you should not rely on it for any legal decision.
  • Attorney advertising. Daily Docket is published by Legalish and sponsored by Lynch LLP, a San Diego intellectual-property law firm. Brian Lynch is licensed in California (Bar No. 292511). Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
  • Accuracy. We try hard to get the facts, votes, and holdings right and we cite our sources. If you think a card is wrong, file an objection; corrections are noted in the edition's source notes.
  • Content and marks. The game's original text, artwork, rank badges, and the DAILY DOCKET and LEGALISH names are the property of Brian Lynch / Legalish. Court opinions are public domain. You're welcome to share your scorecard anywhere.
  • Fair play. Don't try to tamper with streaks, tallies, or purchases, scrape the app, or use it to harass other players. On Reddit, subreddit rules and the Reddit User Agreement also govern.
  • Changes. We may change the game, the editions, or these terms at any time. Material changes to this notice will update the effective date above.
